I work using a Person Centred approach and draw on many other skills and tools such as CBT and Psychodynamic Therapy, taking the approach that is most beneficial to the client at that time.

Understanding Services

I am an Integrative Counsellor, which means I believe that no single therapeutic approach fits every person or every situation. By drawing on different theories and techniques, I can tailor our work to suit your unique needs and goals.

It can be difficult to know which type of support is right for you. While there is often an overlap between these disciplines, they differ in their focus, depth, and goals.

My Approach

At the heart of my practice is the Person-Centred approach. This means our work is built on the foundation of the therapeutic alliance, a relationship based on empathy, genuineness, and a non-judgmental space.

I believe that you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to provide the safe, supportive environment necessary for you to explore your experiences and find your own path to growth.

Defining the Approaches

In the world of therapy, the terminology can often feel confusing. While there is a great deal of overlap between these areas, here is a simple guide to what each term means within my practice:

Counselling

Counselling is typically focused on a specific, "here-and-now" challenge. It provides a supportive space to work through a particular life event—such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown, or a period of high stress. The aim is to help you find clarity and develop the personal resources to navigate a specific situation over a shorter period of time.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy often goes deeper into the "how" and "why" of our lives. It looks beyond immediate crises to explore long-standing patterns, personality, and how past experiences continue to shape your present-day self. This is generally a longer-term process aimed at achieving deeper psychological insight and lasting emotional change.

Clinical Supervision

Unlike therapy, which is for the public, supervision is a professional requirement for counsellors and psychotherapists. It is a collaborative, "reflective practice" where a practitioner meets with a more experienced colleague (the supervisor) to discuss their work. This ensures that the therapist is working safely, ethically, and effectively for the benefit of their clients.
